PLAYS FOR WEEK 17

This week I ended up 9-2, 3-1 on Best Bets. That’s 38-19-1 for four weeks and 19-3 for three weeks. Here’s my line for the last week of the regular season:

Saturday, December 30.

N.Y. Giants –3 Washington: They have to win, they want to win, and they should win. But it will be close. The line has the Giants –2 1/2. No Play.

Sunday, December 31.

Cincinnati –6 Pittsburgh: Both teams having been playing below their abilities. The Steelers just don’t seem to care anymore. The line is Bengals –6, no play.

Dallas –9 Detroit: Sure, the Cowboys defense sucks. But the Lions have no offense or defense. The Cowboys once again will rebound. The Cowboys are giving up 10 ½, no play.

Huston –6 Cleveland: Huston is one of those teams on the improve late in the season. Cleveland is declining fast. Huston’s giving 4, no play.

Jacksonville –3 Kansas City: The Jag’s are little smarter then the Chiefs and have a little more talent. The Chiefs are favored by 2 ½. The Jags are the play.

St. Louis –3 Minnesota: Close game. The Rams should win. The line is the Rams –2. Pass.

New Orleans –8 Carolina: The Saints should dominate. The Saints are giving seven, no play.

Jets EVEN Oakland: Nobody should be giving anybody points in this game. New York is giving the Raiders 11 ½. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Oakland’s a Best Bet!

Seattle –7 Tampa Bay: The Seahawks better realize they’re better then they’ve been playing and try a little harder. Tampa would love to bet them. Tampa’s favored by 3 ½! There’s gotta be something wrong. If not, the Seahawks are a Best Bet!

Tennessee –6 New England: I’m thinking the Titans can win it all. They might have to beat the Patriots twice to do it. They start now. The Titans are giving 3. I’m tempted, but pass.

Baltimore –8 Buffalo: The Ravens are smart enough to keep rolling. The Bills just don’t have any incentive. It’s Baltimore –9. It’s a pass.

Miami –6 Indianapolis: I’m sticking with my “Colts are done theory”. The Colts are giving 7 ½. I’m sticking with my “Colts are done theory”. Take the Dolphins.

Philadelphia –7 Atlanta: I’m thinking possible Titans versus Eagles Super Bowl. Atlanta can wait until 2010. The Eagles are giving 6 ½. No play.

Denver –6 San Francisco: The Broncos should win. The 49’ers just ain’t that good. Denver’s giving 10 ½, again I’m tempted, but pass.

San Diego –7 Arizona: The Chargers better get serious. If they can’t cover seven they better forget about going anywhere through the playoffs. The Chargers are giving up 14. Too many. Take Arizona.

Green Bay –3 Chicago: The Packers want this more then anyone else. The Bears are showing weakness. It’s Chicago –2 ½. The Pack wins. Take ‘em.

Six plays, two Best Bets. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

THE LAST WEEK OF THE REGULAR SEASON

Green Bay –3 Chicago: The Packers want this more then anyone else. The Bears are showing weakness.

Once I get the betting line, I’ll post the picks.

Woulda,Shoulda,Coulda

I should be writing this on my laptop as I sit poolside sipping Chivas Regal at a luxurious Las Vegas resort. Instead I’m in my apartment in dreary Buffalo, New York dreaming about what could have been. It’s Sunday night and so far I’m 7-2 for the weekend and my total for the last four weeks is a sterling 36-19-1. Over the last three weeks I’m 17-3. Imagine the possibilities. On Christmas Day (tomorrow) I like both games as bets. To re-cap:
Take the Jets + 1 ½ for a Best Bet and Philadelphia +7 as a regular bet.
I also liked the Under on the Cleveland-Tampa game. I’m 2-0 on those. When I have the time and energy I’ll calculate my season totals that will be on the winning side.

INVINCIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m a God!!!! Minnesota lost but covered the three points. I’ve got the Golden Touch. I’m 30-17-1!! Something like 11-1 over the last two weeks. What the hell, here’s Sunday’s picks, and Monday night:

Cleveland –4 Tampa: I can’t get it any finer then that. Cleveland should win, but I wouldn’t touch this game. I am willing to bet it’s one hell of a low scoring contest, so, if you’re a real degenerate, take the under. Cleveland’s giving three. The O/U is 34 ½. Take the under (unofficial).

Buffalo –6 Tennessee: Buffalo should win and, they should win big. The line is Buffalo –4. Too close for a play.

Atlanta –3 Carolina: Atlanta doesn’t suck that bad. Atlanta is giving 7. Pass.

St. Louis –6 Washington: The Redskins are a fluke team when they win. The Rams have some life. St. Louis is giving three. Pass.

Pittsburgh –6 Baltimore: I suspect Baltimore is favored. I suspect the Steelers win. The Steelers’ are giving three. They should cover, but pass.

New Orleans –1 New York Giants: This game should be closer then it appears. If the Giants get enough points they may be the play. The Saints are getting three. Play them.

New England –7 Jacksonville: The Pat’s are getting ready for the playoffs and the Jag’s don’t know what they’re doing. Jacksonville is giving 3 points!!!!!!!!!!! I love the Pats for a Best Bet!

Indianapolis –3 Huston: The Colts may have won their last game. Time for them to crash and burn. I’m sure the line will be bigger, and I’m sure Huston will be the play. Huston’s getting 9. Take it.

Chicago –9 Detroit: The Lions suck and the Bears will maul them. The line is only –6! Take the Bears!!!

Arizona –3 San Francisco: The 49’ers will be favored, Arizona will beat them. The 49’ers are giving 4 points. Take ‘em.

San Diego –9 Seattle: The Seahawks have been coached to failure. They’ll be helpless against the Chargers. The Chargers are only giving 3 ½!!! They’re a Best Bet!

Cincinnati -3 Denver: Another team coached to destruction. If the Bengals don’t have to give up too many points they should cover. Holy shit, I never thought Denver would be giving points to any decent team. Take the Bengals and the three points for another Best Bet!

Monday, December 25 (Merry Christmas)

Philadelphia EVEN Dallas: I’m thinking the Cowboys win, but not by much. The Cowboys are giving 7. If I’m on a roll at this point I’d take the Eagles, otherwise, pass. (i.e., if I’m the winning side after Sunday, this is a play. If I’m not (highly unlikely) then pass this one).

New York Jets –7 Miami: Pretty even match-up, but the Jets are the better team. Miami is giving 1 ½. The Jets are a Best Bet.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

That's eight bets (maybe nine) with four Best Bets. Plenty of Christmas cheer for you.

NOT THIS WEEK

Not perfect, but not bad. I went five and one moving my total to 29-17-1. I should go pro. I’m making my picks before checking the lines, as I have been.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 21

Minnesota –7 Green Bay: The Vikings lost to a tough Jets team, and Green Bay got by Detroit. Green Bay is giving three! I’m making Minnesota a bet, but not a best.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 23

Kansas City –10 Oakland: The Raiders aren’t going anywhere and were lucky to get two wins this year. The chiefs were stomped by the Chargers and should bounce back nicely. The line has them (KC) giving 6 ½. They should handle that. Another bet.

Maybe I’m too full of myself, but I like both games. I’ll wait until after Thursday’s game to post for Sunday.

SO FAR SO GOOD

Seattle got beat by Frisco, no surprise. That makes me 1-0 going into this weekend and nine straight wins. I have Dallas over Atlanta tonight. I made them a Best Bet when the line was 3 ½. Now it’s moved to –3. I don’t get it. I’m sticking with the Cowboys.
Here are the picks for the weekend:

Baltimore –10 Cleveland: Baltimore just getting started. A struggling Steelers team spanked Cleveland. This looks like a potential Best Bet. The line is Baltimore –11 ½. I can’t recommend this as a play even though I still think the Ravens will cover.

Buffalo –3 Miami: Both played pretty strong last week. Buffalo’s the more consistent team. The line is Buffalo –1. I think they win bigger, but no play here.

Pittsburgh –6 Carolina: Big mistake changing quarterbacks for the Panthers. The Steelers will eat them alive. It’s Pittsburgh –3. I thought I was being conservative. Take the Steelers.

Chicago –10 Tampa: Of course the Bears will crush them, maybe even shut them out. Less then 14 I’m taking the Bears. Turns out the line is –13 ½…no play here.

Green Bay –7 Detroit: The Pack has some pride. The Lions are horrible. The line is Green Bay –5. Pass.

N.Y. Jets –4 Minnesota: New York will bounce back. The Vikings will be fighting. Tough one. The Jets are getting 3 ½! I figured an even line at best. Speaking of “best”, this makes the N.Y. Jets a Best Bet.

New England –14 Huston: Line won’t be that big. The Pat’s will be a play. The line is New England –11 ½. Closer then I thought. Pass.

New Orleans and Washington: Doesn’t matter what the line is. The Saints will cover. It’s 9 ½…good enough for a bet.

Jacksonville –3 Tennessee: The Titans ain’t that bad and the Jaguars will be overrated since they stomped the Colts. Should be bettable. The line is the Jags –3 ½. Close, so no play.

Denver EVEN Arizona: I used to like the Broncos, but the quarterback change has turned me off. Arizona is the play if they get more then three. They’re getting 2 ½. Pass.

Philadelphia EVEN N.Y. Giants: Take the points. These two teams are even. It’s the Giants –5 ½. Take the Eagles and the points for a Best Bet.

St. Louis –1 Oakland: I don’t like the Raiders, but if they get too many points I may take them against the Rams. So, they’re actually giving points. The Raiders –2 ½. When’s the last time they were favored? I wouldn’t call this bettable but I think they cover.

San Diego –7 ½ Kansas City: The Chiefs are just not that good. The Chargers are explosive. I’ll wait for the line. The line is the Chargers –8 ½. Pass.

MONDAY DECEMBER 18

Cincinnati EVEN Indianapolis: An even game if ever there was one. Take whoever gets the points. The Colts are giving 3. I’d take them if I was looking for action, otherwise I’ll pass.

Between Sunday and Monday I can only come up with four plays. Not all that surprising at the end of the season. Two of the games are Best Bets. I did come up with six plays overall half of them Best Bets so it’s actually a typical week.

READY FOR A REPEAT?

After a perfect weekend last week I'm feeling a bit omnipotent. Word of warning: After a really good week, I usually have a letdown. That being said I'm ready to make the oddsmakers look foolish and put some bookies out of business.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 14

Seattle –4 San Francisco: Something’s really wrong in Seattle. The 49’ers are still trying even though things are hopeless for them. The line goes to more then seven I may take 49’ers. The line is Seattle -9 1/2. Take San Francisco.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 16

Dallas –9 Atlanta: The Cowboys got spanked and the Falcons will give them a chance to work out their frustration. The actual line is Dallas -3 1/2. I would've liked Dallas at -9! Holy Shit! I can't see it! Dallas -3 1/2 is a BEST BET!!!

That's it for now. There'll be a few more bets for Sunday, and most of them will be Best Bets. I'm just waiting to see how Thursday goes. I'll be posting the rest Saturday.

PERFECT

It was about time! PERFECT for the weekend! I was a perfect 8-0! I could actually claim 9-0 since I called the “under” on the Atlanta-Tampa game. But I’ll just go with the 8-0 and jack my record to 24-16-1!!!!!!!!! Why buck the trend? I’ll make my picks this week the same way I did last week. First, I’ll make my line. Then I’ll make recommendations based on that.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 14

Seattle –4 San Francisco: Something’s really wrong in Seattle. The 49’ers are still trying even though things are hopeless for them. The line goes to more then seven I may take 49’ers.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 16

Dallas –9 Atlanta: The Cowboys got spanked and the Falcons will give them a chance to work out their frustration.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 17

Baltimore –10 Cleveland: Baltimore just getting started. A struggling Steelers team spanked Cleveland. This looks like a potential Best Bet.

New Orleans and Washington: Doesn’t matter what the line is. The Saints will cover.

Jacksonville –3 Tennessee: The Titans ain’t that bad and the Jaguars will be overrated since they stomped the Colts. Should be bettable.

Denver EVEN Arizona: I used to like the Broncos, but the quarterback change has turned me off. Arizona is the play if they get more then three.
Philadelphia EVEN N.Y. Giants: Take the points. These two teams are even.

St. Louis –1 Oakland: I don’t like the Raiders, but if they get too many points I may take them against the Rams.

San Diego –7 ½ Kansas City: The Chiefs are just not that good. The Chargers are explosive. I’ll wait for the line.

MONDAY DECEMBER 18

Cincinnati EVEN Indianapolis: An even game if ever there was one. Take whoever gets the points.

I’ll post the picks tomorrow.

A GOOD TIME TO CATCH UP

This seems like a good time to catch up on my stats. My choices sucked last week. I went 1-3 on my Best Bets making my total 3-3. On the strictly bettable games I went 1-4. Overall for the last four weeks I'm 16-14-1. Not that impressive...Until today!!!!! I hand 8 beatable games with five of them being Best Bets. So far, I'm 6-0 with two games to go. I got the Saints tonight (+7 1/2) and the Bears -6 Monday night. I probably just jinxed myself as far as having a perfect weekend but what the hell, the worst I could be is 6-2 and 22-16-1 overall. I'll take that!

DECEMBER 10

I'm a little late with the posts. Turns out most of the bettable games look like Best Bets. Once again, bettable games are in red. Best Bets are red and bold.

Baltimore-7 Kansas City: The Chiefs choke. The only chance they have is intelligent coaching since they can't win on talent. Oh yeah, they have Herm Edwards. Seven points probably won't be big enough. The Line is K.C. -3 making Baltimore a Best Bet.

Atlanta -3 Tampa Bay: One thing for sure Tampa has no offense. The under may be the best bet here (but I don't play that). Line is where I thought it would be. No bet here. For the record, the O/U is 37. Pretty generous. The under is the only way to play this one.

Minnesota pick Detroit: Who ever gets the points get the play. Well, the Vikings are getting one. I wouldn'’t bet this game.

Tennessee -6 Huston: That should be the line. Anything else, give or take a point, is crazy. Turns out, they'’re crazy. Huston is giving Tennessee a point. Best Bet Two.

NY Giants -6 Carolina: Who cares. I wouldn't bet this horror show. Well, if the line is 10 or more I'd take the Panthers, but it won't be. Holy shit! Carolina is giving New York 2 1/2! Bettable (not a Best Bet, though).

Dallas -3 New Orleans: Romo's on the verge of a letdown. The Saints may actually win this one. The line is actually 7 ½. That makes the Saints bettable.

NY Jets -6 Buffalo: The Bills are one of those teams that play to the level of their opponent, or else all those genius coaches play down to the Bills level. Not the Jets. The line is only 3 ½. New York should cover that. (No bet, though).

Indianapolis -3 Jacksonville: The Jags will probably win. I'm real curious about this line. I think this is going to be lousy coach vs mediocre coach. Take mediocre and the points. The game is a "“pick"”. Don'’t try and bet this one.

Washington and Philadelphia: Take whoever gets the points. That'’s Washington getting one. Pass on this contest.

Cincinnati -1,000,000 Oakland: Anything more, I'll take the Raiders, otherwise the Bengals will be a Best Bet. Best Bet of the day, maybe of the whole year. Take the Bengals and you only have to give up 10 ½.

New England -4 Miami: Minus four? I'm going with line on this one. Less I'm taking the Pats, more I'm going with the Dolphins. So the line is 3 ½. No bet.

Green Bay -3 San Francisco: The 49ers are getting a little too much attention. They aren'’t that good. I was right about too much attention. The 49ers are giving 4 ½! The Packers are bettable.

Seattle -7 Arizona: Seven or less, the Seahawks are a Best Bet. More then 7, I'm going with Arizona since coach Holmgren is an idiot. Holmgren a bigger idiot then I thought after watching him almost blow the game against Denver. The actual line of -–3 seems about right. Pass.

San Diego -14 Denver: This line isn't going to happen. The Chargers will be a best bet. This didn'’t happen. The line is 7 ½. Take the Chargers as a Best Bet.

Monday, December 11, 2006

Chicago -whatever St. Louis: Grossman threw for 3 yards (actually 34) and the Bears still won. Arizona clobbered St. Louis. The line won't be big enough. The line is Chicago -–6. Not enough. The Bears are another Best Bet.

Eight bettable games, five Best Bets. What can I say. If you only bet one game, it's the Bengals over the Raiders. Or, better yet, parlay Baltimore with Cincinnati.

PICKS FOR WEEK 14

I haven't bothered with the body count, but my picks sucked this week. It's the end of the season and all those brilliant statisticians are out thinking themselves. I'm guilty of the same thing. NFL coaches, as a group, are morons. I can site dozens of examples from this week, but I'll avoid that for now. Here's the line for next week, my eventual picks will be based on the real lines:

Thursday, December 7, 2006

Pittsburgh -3 Cleveland: Pittsburgh has to be favored. More then 3, I'm taking Cleveland.

Sunday, December 10, 2006

NY Giants -6 Carolina: Who cares. I wouldn't bet this horror show. Well, if the line is 10 or more I'd take the Panthers, but it won't be.

Cincinnati -1,000,000 Oakland: Anything more, I'll take the Raiders, otherwise the Bengals will be a Best Bet.

Minnesota pick Detroit: Who ever gets the points get the play.

Indianapolis -3 Jacksonville: The Jags will probably win. I'm real curious about this line. I think this is going to be lousy coach vs mediocre coach. Take mediocre and the points.

Tennessee -6 Huston: That should be the line. Anything else, give or take a point, is crazy.

Baltimore-7 Kansas City: The Chiefs choke. The only chance they have is intelligent coaching since they can't win on talent. Oh yeah, they have Herm Edwards. Seven points probably won't be big enough.

New England -4 Miami: Minus four? I'm going with line on this one. Less I'm taking the Pats, more I'm going with the Dolphins.

Atlanta -3 Tampa Bay: One thing for sure Tampa has no offense. The under may be the best bet here (but I don't play that).

Washington and Philadelphia: Take whoever gets the points.

Seattle -7 Arizona: Seven or less, the Seahawks are a Best Bet. More then 7, I'm going with Arizona since coach Holmgren is an idiot.

Green Bay -3 San Francisco: The 49 ers are getting a little too much attention. They ain't that good.

NY Jets -6 Buffalo: The Bills are one of those teams that play to the level of their opponent, or else all those genius coaches play down to the Bills level. Not the Jets.

Dallas -3 New Orleans: Romo's on the verge of a letdown. The Saints may actually win this one.

San Diego -14 Denver: This line isn't going to happen. The Chargers will be a best bet.

Monday, December 11, 2006

Chicago -whatever St. Louis: Grossman threw for 3 yards (actually 34) and the Bears still won. St. Louis got clobbered by Arizona. The line won't be big enough.

The actually recommendations will be posted when the real line comes out. If you read closely, there's already a few Best Bets. Probably on Wednesday.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 3

This is going to be a really good weekend. Bettable games are in red. Best Bets are Bold and Red.

CHICAGO 9½ Minnesota: This is a tough one. While I think the Bears may be a little overrated, I doubt the Vikings will score. Give the points.

PITTSBURGH 7½ Tampa Bay: Just the kind of spread I was hoping for. Tampa covers may actually win this one.

ST. LOUIS 6½ Arizona: It took two big plays for Arizona to stay close last week. The Rams roll here, give the points.

Indianapolis 7½ TENNESSEE: One of those games that should have a bigger line. Tells me to take the Titans.

MIAMI pick Jacksonville: Miami should win. I figured Jacksonville would be getting at least three.

NEW ORLEANS 7 San Francisco: Seven points is fair. Saints can cover that.

WASHINGTON 1½ Atlanta: Believe it or not, I'’m going with Atlanta. I think Vick has one of his infrequent good games.

Kansas City 5 CLEVELAND: KC beat Denver, the Browns were shut out. The Chiefs are making a run at the playoffs and the Browns are running for the bus. Hell, give '‘em 10 points, they still won'’t cover.

NEW ENGLAND 13½ Detroit: The biggest line of the day. I have to ask myself "“why"”? To get some of that money on Detroit. Don'’t be conned. New England'’s tuning up for the playoffs and should run the score up. They will cover.

San Diego 6 BUFFALO: I said it before and I'’ll say it again, I hate picking Bills'’ games. That is until today. No way in hell do the Bills stop Tomlinson. And if they try, Rivers picks them apart. The Chargers end the Bills two game win streak in the worst way.

NY Jets 1 GREEN BAY: I hate one-point lines. What the hell does that mean? Why not a pick? I like the Jets. The Jets like themselves and are shooting for the playoffs. The Pack is done. Give the point.

Dallas 3½ NY GIANTS: Somebody'’s kidding here. The Giants are finished and the Cowboys are headed to the Super Bowl. Give the points.

OAKLAND 3 Houston: This one'’s tough. I'’ll take the Raiders to cover.

DENVER 4 Seattle: I would have reversed this line. The Bronco'’s defense is tough, but I don'’t like them switching quarterbacks. Seattle covers with a win.

Monday, Dec. 4
Carolina 3 PHILADELPHIA: This game can go either way. I figured the line to be a little bigger. I'’ll take the Eagles and the points.

Eight bettable games and three are best bets. They all could be best bets as far as I'm concerned. This will be my biggest Sunday ever!
